Alexander campaign 2 starting soon. Check back for details.

The results can be seen on the Statistics page.

Thank you to all who participated.  We received quite a few games from some of you and I was heartened by all the good battle reports we received.  Since the response was so positive watch out for a similar campaign next summer.

Alexander the Great conquered almost all of the known world at his time. To mark the 2326th anniversary of his death (a month late) and celebrate the impending release of Warhammer Ancient Battles: Alexander the Great we thought we would attempt a world wide campaign based on the conquests of this mighty general.  As far as I know this will be the first historical event of this kind.

Since Alexander did not appear out of nowhere we are including the battles that Philip fought to subdue Greece in this campaign as well.  We are trying to make this as widely encompassing as possible.

The Macedonian phalanx locked Alexander's enemies in place while the cavalry destroyed them.

Alexander led the cavalry charge that broke the Greek line at Chaironeia and brought his father, and ultimately himself, hegemony over all of Greece.

You can use the buttons in the table at the top of this page to navigate around the Alexander Campaign Web Site.

Participation in this event is simple.

1) Starting July 18th  and finishing September 18th play a game using a Macedonian army of the period and one of their numerous enemies.  You can use any system you like.  WAB, DBA, DBM, Armati, Tactica or anything else you can conceive.  The only limitation is that it has to be a table top miniature game.  You can use any scale you like, 28mm, 20mm, 15mm, 10mm or whatever.  This should give you about a month to get that Macedonian army finished.

2) Send us an email with the results.  We will keep track of the number of battles the Macedonians are winning in the different theatres of the wars.

To send us the results please answer these questions in an email to pictors@pictorsstudio.com

I will be trying to update the website everyday that battles are submitted so you can see how your side is doing.

Indian longbow men failed to stop the Macedonian forces at the battle of Hydaspes.  The Indian losses were 10-40 times greater than Macedonian losses at that battle.

Greek cavalry was used both by Alexander and against him.  Philip of Macedon was declared Tagos in Thessaly, the area of Greece that arguably produced the best cavalry.

I can't promise any sweeping changes in history, unfortunately, but it will be pretty neat to see how the conquest turns out on the gaming table. We will also post some of the battle reports we receive and you can see how other battles turned out.

We will not be collecting any email addresses we receive in this campaign.  None of your information will be leaving our computer, obviously that is not the point.  Anyone who would like their email address posted with their battle report should inform us of this and we will put it up beside the battle report. We will also post your location if you would like.  Nothing would please me more than ancient players in the same area meeting each other due to this campaign.

The Persian King, in his chariot, directed his forces personally.  Despite appearances, Darius III was an able general but he had met a far superior soldier in Alexander.

Alexander's companion cavalry were often given the job of inflicting the decisive strike.  They were the first troops to beat the Theban Sacred Band and killed most of them where they stood.
